1980 GMC Sierra 3500 dually tow truck with a 454 and quadra-jet carburetor.
•Dually rearend with a Muncie SM 465 Manual transmission.
Low, 1st, 2nd and 3rd
•Featuring the reliable Holmes 440 Hi-Power wrecking bed 5 ton with a 10k lb winch.
The boom extends past the tailbed, which helps in loading and provides better weight distribution to prevent the truck from lifting. The support cable pulley runs to the end of the extension, making the boom highly resistant to bending.
•High performance Holmes HD winch with rapid reverse and a strong worm gear.
•Started its life as a US Postal Service Tow Truck and was well maintained.
The USPS used these trucks for a reason. They are dependable work horses. Coupled with the Holmes 440 Hi-Power tow bed system the USPS needed dependable tow vehicles.
•Runs fantastic.
•Dually Line PTO wrecker system with extendable boom.
•Have both dollys as well for towing all wheel drive vehicles.
•Great solid front push bumper.
Everything works. ( except the radio which you wouldnt be able to hear over the rumble of the engine and exhaust as it is lol)
I recently purchased this Tow Truck. I had to put new rear tires on. ( 10 ply) One tire was lost in shipping ( by Fedex uhhfff) so would suggest replacing that older tire.
Put some new spark plugs wires as well.
Could still use new front tires soon. 235/85 R16 10 ply or greater.
I registered it last week and paid for permanent plates and a customer personalized plate ( NT4H1RE).
I have went back and forth debating wether to sell it or not. When i bought it i paid for permanent plates for a reason but life changes and I will be traveling in the near future and have to many vehicles to try to store.
Surprisingly my insurance for this as a personal tow truck was only an extra $1.56 a month ( no joke ill show you the bill). They said it classified as a classic.
In Montana the law says you can tow personal vehicles and friends vehicles without a commercial license as long as you dont charge any money and follow any safety rules. However you are not constrained by ANY commercial tow rules. Only general safety regulations pertaining to towing.
( I did a lot of research on Montana regulations)
It is straight piped and very loud! Would suggest putting some headers on it.
Sounds real good and healthy.
•Fires right up every time!
•Excellent compression on all cylinders.
Not interested in trades unless its gold or silver.
This is a pretty sweet truck. The previous owner listed it as 80k miles which the odometer does show but who knows? Its a pretty sweet addition to any collection. Or you can start your own scrapping business.
Just since having it only a week I have had a ton of People ask me to come take cars from their property. Could probably make your money back scrapping cars in a couple short weeks.
There are so many people with scrap cars that want them gone. Thats couple hundred each at scrap not including some catalytic converters.
Anyways there it is.
Hit me up and buy something that is useful, runs great and holds its value.
Pretty firm on the price. Thats about what I have into it and its more than fair. Plates can go with it.
Clean title and bill of sale in hand
